Nestled on Columbus Avenue in New York’s vibrant Upper West Side, Jamrock Jerk brings an authentic slice of Jamaica right to your plate. This Jamaican restaurant is a must-visit for anyone craving the bold, smoky, and spicy flavors that define true jerk cuisine, expertly prepared using traditional Jamaican herbs and spices and a time-honored charcoal grill technique.
The menu at Jamrock Jerk is a celebration of rich Caribbean heritage, with standouts like the Jerked Chicken — tender chicken legs and thighs marinated to perfection and imbued with a smoky, fiery kick thanks to their signature Scotch Bonnet sauce. Complimenting the main dishes are classic sides such as the velvety Mac & Cheese crafted from organic milk and cheddar with a subtle Jamaican spice twist, and the fragrant Rice & Peas, slow-steamed with coconut milk and kidney beans to create a rich, comforting base. The Fried Plantains, hand-sliced and perfectly caramelized, add a sweet contrast that beautifully balances the smoky heat of the jerk meat.
Popular entrees like Stewed Oxtails and combo plates of Oxtail and Jerk Chicken offer a hearty, soul-satisfying experience, though some diners note the oxtail can lean heavy. However, the consensus clearly favors the jerk chicken for its tender juiciness and vibrant seasoning. The flavors here go beyond mere spiciness—each bite pulses with a deep, smoky richness that transports you straight to a Jamaican food haven.
The atmosphere, while casual and straightforward, reflects the no-nonsense, made-from-scratch authenticity of the food itself. It’s a spot where locals and visitors alike gather to enjoy generous portions of genuine Jamaican fare in a friendly, laid-back setting. One enthusiastic customer, Shane S., mentions how the jerk chicken “is the best” and worth every penny, despite the oxtail being a bit heavy. Another reviewer, Patrick Daniel Songco, highlights the tender seasoning and flavorful rice & beans, awarding the eatery 4 out of 5 stars for taste with a note on the slightly premium pricing.
Jamrock Jerk began as a beloved food truck experience and remains a favorite for many who appreciate Caribbean culinary traditions. Meanwhile, World Vlogs, someone well-versed in authentic Jamaican flavors, attests to the unmistakable true-to-Jamaica preparation, capturing the essence of the island’s cuisine without compromise.
Whether you’re a Jamaican food aficionado or a curious newcomer, Jamrock Jerk offers an immersive and delicious journey into the heart of jerk cooking. With every smokey bite, you’ll find yourself craving not just the meal, but the warmth and passion simmering behind each dish. Don’t miss the chance to savor this Upper West Side gem, where tradition meets bold flavor in every plate.
I would go with the jerk chicken. The stew oxtail was packed, but too heavy and greasy. It was pricey but a lot of food. I like the jerk chicken the best.
It’s my first time trying Jamrock Jerk Chicken and it didn’t disappoint. The chicken leg and thigh are well seasoned and tender. The rice & beans are flavorful too. It’s just a little pricey tho but nonetheless I give it a 4/5 stars.
Jamrock Jerk is the best food truck I have ever experienced in my lifetime. Not only is the food unbelievable! The service is all the way 5 star! Speaking from someone that has spent extensive time in Jamaica before it became Americanized many years ago. The food on this food truck is prepared just like it is prepared in Jamaica. I really could not tell the difference. Only thing missing was the coco bread, and rum punch....but if you're watching your figure, who cares about bread.... (Shrugs shoulders) Definitely check out this amazing food truck. They are in different locations throughout Manhattan. You will truly enjoy the freshly prepared, authentic Jamaican food.
This is a great food truck. Nice to see they have multiple for everyone to try. Would be nice for them to ad a brick and mortar but I’m sure rent is way to high for that. Their prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get. We had the chicken and pork. The chicken was better. The pork was just a little dry but good flavor on both. The rice and beans were some of the best I have had. This is a must if in the city.
